my thoughts into words

Love To Do’s

I want to start sharing my Love To Do’s because, well, everyone loves sharing a good clothing haul, why not share activity based hauls?

Now we’re still in this weird quarantine times so socializing is still restrictive in some places (aw man! *sarcasm*). Luckily, I love doing things in smaller groups – even better, I love doing things with just my family. Here are a few things that I’ve been loving and have been keeping me high spirited!

  • Going for long walks by water
  • Going for long walks surrounded by trees
  • Starting a passion project: side business/hustle (not a fan of that word but you get it)
  • Researching for your passion project – This has been my biggest time consumer. I love diving real deep into a subject and just trying to find everything and anything about it. *Warning* Try not to over research or you’ll feel overwhelmed and get to scared to even start!
  • Breathing deeply for 1-5 minutes
  • Finding a mantra that you want to focus on for the next 3 months. I’ve been focusing on my family’s financial goals!
  • Documenting the journey. I recently (okay, not so much recently but more like 2 months to this day) have been vlogging my daily activities and just documenting my journey to my life’s purpose. I have no set niche but I’m starting to see a clearer direction and that’s honestly all I could ask for!
  • Making a financial goal. This one has become a game to me. I’m seriously enjoying finding ways to bring in more income, saving money and just challenging myself!
  • Tracking progress. This kind of links with documenting the journey but here I’m talking about having an excel spreadsheet of hard numbers. For example, seeing your debts gets smaller and smaller. Your reps/sets/weights getting bigger and bigger. This is providing you a visual and true information that in returns gives you all the real good feelings!
  • Tarot Card Reading. No need to be a pro but when you find a deck that suits your aesthetics and inspires you just by looking at the art – you’ve won!
  • Slowing Down. With everything that’s going on in regards to my passion project sometimes I forget to slow down. I love leaving my phone in a room and spending time with family, internet-free! I get to notice the smallest things my kids do and it’s so emotionally fulfilling!
  • Drinking Water. To be more specific, brushing my teeth then chugging cold Santiva filtered water! Super refreshing!
  • Learning. I have been recommended to check out the Enterprise Centre in St. Catherines to really learn more about running a small business and I’m loving it! Free, high quality information given to me through webinars in the comfort of my pajamas. More please!
  • Garage Sale. Tis the season! I’ve been on the hunt around the Niagara Region for great estate sales and have found amazing items. Beautiful bar cart for $5. Vibrant green ottoman for $5. And so much more! Great for the sellers, great for my bank account.

Well I hope this list brought new ideas to you. I really enjoyed all of these small things and I hope you do too!

So I want to know,

What have you been loving?

Difficult Day

Today was difficult.

Something about today made me more anxious than other days. Maybe it’s social media with the horrible news that’s happening in America. Maybe it’s the lack of water consumption. Maybe it’s the hormones.

In times like this, I know the best approach is to slow down.

I want to share what’s been helping me ground myself during everything and I hope that you know it’s okay to step back for your own mental health.

My go to practice is WRITING. Writing is a private self expression where no one needs to know what the heck you’re writing about. Writing in your journal liberates you to release every feeling in of you. Writing is probably the most common practice an individual deep diving into self-development is doing. Writing is good!

Next is affirmations. To be more specific Financial affirmations. We’re living in unknown times right now and to be financially free and flexible is to say the least – peaceful. Here’s one of my favourite affirmation I repeat twice a day and say each one 3x:

  1. I am worthy of having more wealth.
  2. Financial Freedom is my birthright.
  3. Money comes to me easily and harmoniously.
  4. I am a powerful money magnet.
  5. My net worth is growing exponentially.
  6. My life is full of prosperity and abundance.
  7. I am grateful to be financially free.
  8. Money leads to happiness for myself and those around me.
  9. Money is rooted in good and leads to peace.
  10. I am a thriving and wealthy person
  11. My opportunities are lucrative and plentiful.
  12. My loved ones are happy to see me wealthy.
  13. I am the master of my own money.
  14. Being wealthy feels amazing.
  15. There is plenty of money to go around.
  16. It feels wonderful to have financial flexibility.

Now the secret here is not just saying it but believing it’s true. Trust me!

Lastly, TAROT READING. Yup, I’m one of those and proud of it. I purchased the Muse Tarot desk by Chris-Anne in the beginning of the pandemic and it’s been the best purchase thus far! The art of each tarot makes you feel something and honestly inspires you to think, which is why it’s called “The Muse” deck, duh! 🙂 Of course the art isn’t what I bought it for, it’s the message behind each one. Every day pulling our a daily tarot card to reflect on makes you that much more reflective or more attuned to looking for that message of hope, light and love. Tarot is practicing self-reflection and what’s more grounding than that?

I hope these helped you atleast a little as it help me a lot.

Do them or don’t do them.

Always with you,

It’s not about lack.

It’s not about being or doing less.

Essentialism is about having intention behind key actions.

We moved to Niagara Falls May of 2019 and with that came big changes. Toronto was our home. We felt comfortable with its busyness and expensive lifestyle. We accepted that that’s just how life is. But we took a step back and asked ourselves, “does it have to be our life?”

The lifestyle in Toronto is expensive. Daycare, transportation, rent, food. Not only is it money expensive, but it was also time expensive. And for parents, time is everything. The idea of moving to Niagara Falls was bubbling in the back of both our heads. So many questions making us dance back and forth to the idea of moving.

A year later, we became essentialist.

Here is what helped us get there!

Declutter

I’ve noticed as our family grows our belongings shrink and I’m loving it. I have an anxious energy and it doesn’t help if my surrounding environment is busy and clutters.

This is pretty straight forward. Be honest with yourself and let go of any items just laying around for the “just in case” scenarios. If you haven’t touched it the past 6 months, chances are you don’t need it. Also, it’s a good reminder that items are replaceable.

Essential items only!

Self-Care

I can’t speak for Marco but I knew moving away from family, our sort-of comfortable life, and also not living on our own. Taking care of ourselves is top priority.

No bubble baths, no face masks, nothing social media pushed activities.

Self-care meant long walks, mainly to reflect or listen to podcasts. Laughing and joking around with Marco and the kids. Indulging in YouTube videos of what I find interesting, even if I watch them mindlessly. Saying no to more online workshops or tutorials on how to be productive. Saying yes to therapy, journaling and crying.

These were small but impactful things that made me feel grounded and – me.

Wants Vs. Needs

Back when it was just Marco and I, we had flexibility and no responsibility, so yes, we will use all our bonus towards an iMac or a weekend getaway in New York.

It’s not the same now.

And I’m happy about that.

Imagine if everything stayed the same. Where would we be financially?

During our time away from the city, we established what our needs and wants are. We know that a chunk of our income goes towards Marco’s work expenses and the kids. The rest goes to savings.

This was probably the most difficult change for me. I’m not a big spender but lets be honest, we live in a consumer’s world so it’s still hard.

An exercise that I’ve learned to do before even thinking of purchasing anything is breathing. Very anticlimactic, I know. But honestly it saved me so much unnecessary purchases and saved us a lot of money. This breathing exercise puts me in the present moment and really asks me “do you really need it?” or, “do you have something similar lying around that you can use right now?”. These questions places me in front of the truth and that’s basically me wanting to spend money to get some taste of instant gratification. I just want to feel good. Right now. Like, right now, right now.

In hindsight, there was essentialism in our choices and daily practices whether we knew it or not. It has prepared us for now and  I’m thankful for the change, even when certain days tested harder than others – still, I’m thankful.

All in all,

Let this trying time push you to see less as more.

With you always,

@lydiamillen

I’ve been following her for more than a year now and it’s honestly so satisfying watching her decorate and redecorate her home. She started off as a beauty blogger but evolved to a home/skincare/lifestyle profile. If you’re into binging easy to watch, aesthetically pleasing, inspiring and aspiring life, head over to her account now.

@thewildfeminine

Empowering the goddess in you, this is the account for it. The art she creates is simple and strays away from the typical. It’s feminine, it’s strong, it’s posts you would want to stick around your life.

@inthefrow

Another blogger who does interior decorating. I don’t usually follow them for their makeup tutorials but moreso their home. Victoria’s another UK based blogger sharing her home and I’m enjoying her colour palette with old country charm.

@birjuchinka

Ah, the overall feed of her account is just beautifully done. Everyone’s about being the minimalist of the century but this account just pushes all that to the side and brings in all things nature, apothecary, and just darn pretty moody posts.

@ya.molli

She creates instastory filters and I am a loyal user of them. Not only does she create filters but she also shares creative ways to express yourself through Stories, whether it’s how to edit a photo or cute minimal giphy’s, she keeps them available to refer back to through Story Highlights.
